Getty Images (NYSE: GETY), a global leader in visual media and editorial content, has officially reopened its Editorial Photography Internship Program for 2025. Now in its second year, the program aims to foster emerging talent in visual journalism with the support of long-time imaging partner Canon U.S.A., Inc., a pioneer in digital imaging solutions.
This year, three paid internships will be offered in the United States, each focused on a specific editorial stream: News, Sport, and Entertainment. Selected interns will work side-by-side with Getty Images’ acclaimed team of photographers, videographers, editors, and content specialists. They will receive hands-on experience covering high-profile events, professional mentorship, and valuable networking opportunities – all while using Canon’s industry-leading EOS cameras and RF lenses, thanks to Getty Images’ strategic partnership with the company.
The first cohort of interns – Luke Hales (Sport), Kayla Bartkowski (News), and Maya Spach (Entertainment) – set a high standard, contributing meaningfully to coverage of marquee events such as the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the 2024 World Series, the 67th GRAMMY Awards®, the 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards®, the 2025 U.S. Presidential Inauguration, and the midair collision at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Their work reached global audiences through major outlets like The New York Times, CNN, ESPN, The Washington Post, Vogue, Vanity Fair, USA Today, and The Hollywood Reporter.
Ken Mainardis, Getty Images’ Global Head of Editorial, highlighted the program’s impact: “We’re thrilled to welcome a new group of talented individuals into the editorial fold. With Canon’s continued partnership, this internship offers real access to the inner workings of our editorial engine – mentorship, gear, and on-the-ground opportunities – to develop the next generation of storytellers.”
Canon’s Vice President of Business Planning & Strategy, Hiroto Kato, echoed this sentiment: “It’s critical to invest in the next wave of photographers and help them grow. We’re proud to support Getty Images in this meaningful initiative and to provide the tools these students need to thrive.”
The program is open to applicants aged 18 and older who are passionate about photography and storytelling. Professional experience is not required, but a strong work ethic, enthusiasm for content creation, and a willingness to learn are essential. Internships will take place in Los Angeles (Entertainment), New York (Sport), and Washington, D.C. (News). While all are welcome to apply, Getty Images especially encourages applications from individuals historically underrepresented in the industry, including people of color and those with intersectional identities.
Interns will be paid hourly and integrated into the Getty Images editorial team, receiving practical training across a wide range of areas including:
- Capturing both photo and video content for major editorial assignments
- On-site and remote editing for stills and video
- Understanding workflows for large-scale events and breaking news
- Event planning, production, and editorial coordination
- Client and assignment management
- Developing visual narratives using advanced Canon imaging tools
Upon completion of the program in 2026, interns will receive a professional recommendation from Getty Images, guaranteed media placement for their portfolio work, and potential consideration for future staff positions or inclusion in the company’s preferred provider list.
